A cotton rib behaves nothing like a wool one
Wool springs back and holds a shape on its own. Cotton has almost no memory, so the rib has to be knitted heavy enough to hold its own weight. That is why a cardigan like this is thick, and why it drapes straight down instead of clinging.

Why it costs what it costs
Organic cotton in a heavy rib is a genuinely expensive combination: the yarn costs more per kilo and a chunky rib uses two or three times the yardage of a flat knit. Most of what you are paying for here is weight of material rather than construction.
