A perfectly round lens is the hardest shape to cut and mount

Any other shape gives the eye a straight edge to judge against. A circle gives none, so a fraction of a millimetre out of true at the rim reads instantly as a lens that does not sit right.

Why it costs what it costs

A thin rim is the least forgiving way to hold a round lens, and it is also the lightest. The trade is made once, in the frame, and everything else follows from it.

We sell direct. There is no shop floor between this and you and no distributor taking a cut on the way, so the retail margin that normally sits on top of a piece like this is simply not in the price.
