Woven Palm-Leaf
Basket Tote — XL
A very large woven palm-leaf basket with a shaped leather handle and long canvas straps.
Sixty-two centimetres across, and 1.1 kg empty.
The size where a basket becomes luggage
Sixty-two by thirty-seven by twenty-five is not a handbag, it is a week's worth of beach in one piece. What makes it usable at that scale is the weave: palm leaf is stiff enough to hold the walls up when the bag is half empty, so it never collapses into a sack.
Palm leaf, canvas and leather
It has a handwoven palm-leaf body with coated-canvas and leather trim, lined in the same palm-leaf weave, with gold-tone metal and a hanging leather tag.
A shaped leather piece forms the top handle and the front hooks shut on it. The shoulder straps have a carrying length of about 32 cm, and the whole bag weighs about 1.1 kg.
How it carries
- Shoulder straps at a carrying length of approx. 32 cm
- A shaped leather top handle
- A front hook closure
- Lined in the same palm-leaf weave
- Approx. 1.1 kg, for 62 cm of bag

Why it costs what it costs
A woven basket has no seams to take the load, so everything hangs off the points where the leather is stitched through the weave. At 62 cm those anchor points carry a great deal, and each one is reinforced behind the panel where you will never see it.
We sell direct. There is no shop floor between this bag and you and no distributor taking a cut on the way, so the retail margin that normally sits on top of a piece like this is simply not in the price.
