Button-Waist
Wide-Leg Trousers
High-waisted wide-leg trousers with a buttoned front placket and patch pockets. Five colours.
Four buttons up the waistband. It is the fastening, not decoration.
A high waistband has to be shaped, not just tall
Cut a waistband as a straight strip and take it above the natural waist and it gaps at the back every time you sit. Curving it to follow the body is more pattern work and more cloth, and it is the only way a high rise stays flat.
Buttoned at the waist, wide through the leg
They sit high on the waist, with pockets at the front hip and a line that carries from a casual day out to a dressier evening.
The trousers photographed have a deep shaped waistband fastening on four buttons, patch pockets at the front hip, a wide leg and a turned cuff at the hem. Five colours appear in the gallery.
How they wear
- A deep waistband on four buttons
- Patch pockets at the front hip
- A wide leg from the hip down
- A turned cuff at the hem

Why it costs what it costs
Patch pockets on the front of a trouser are the hardest place to put them: there is no seam to hide the edge in and nothing behind them to take the weight, so they have to be placed by eye and stitched through a single layer. Most wide-leg trousers avoid the problem by having no front pockets at all.
We sell direct. There is no shop floor between this and you and no distributor taking a cut on the way, so the retail margin that normally sits on top of a piece like this is simply not in the price.
