Hand-Worked
Raffia Maxi Tote
A very large open-weave raffia tote, unlined, with an interior chain that holds the sides in shape.
Forty-three centimetres tall and it weighs almost nothing.
The chain is what makes it a bag and not a sack
An unlined raffia tote this size would collapse into a bundle the moment you picked it up. A chain run through the sides holds the top edge open and the walls upright, so the shape survives being carried. It is the whole engineering of the thing.
Natural raffia, hand-worked
It has 100 per cent natural raffia, hand-embroidered, soft and flexible, unlined for lightness, with discreet gold-tone metal and a large cast ornament on the front panel.
A chain inside shapes the sides, and a small raffia case for sunglasses is removable and included. The handles are about 22 cm high.
How it carries
- Two short handles, height approx. 22 cm
- An interior chain that holds the sides open
- A removable raffia case for sunglasses
- Unlined, so it stays very light
- Room for a laptop
The product
Exterior: 100% natural raffia, hand-embroidered, soft and flexible. Lining: unlined for maximum lightness. Subtle gold-tone metal accents. Two short handles, height approx. 22 cm. Interior chain to shape the sides. Removable raffia sunglasses case. Width 37–55 cm, height 43 cm, depth 5–8 cm.
One colour
Offered in natural raffia.
Why it costs what it costs
Raffia is worked by hand because it cannot be fed through a machine: every row is tensioned by the person making it, and an open weave shows any row that was pulled tighter than the one before. On a panel 43 cm tall there are a great many rows to keep even.

How big is it?
It has a width of 37 to 55 cm, a height of 43 cm and a depth of 5 to 8 cm, approximate.
Why is the width a range?
The weave is soft and unlined, so the bag draws in when empty and opens out when full.
Is it lined?
No. It is unlined, which is what keeps it light.
What holds the shape?
A chain run through the inside of the sides, which keeps the top edge open.
Is the small case included?
Yes. A removable raffia case for sunglasses is included.
Can it be returned?
Yes. Seven calendar days from delivery, unworn and in its original condition.
One colour, hand-worked in a small run
These are hand-worked and stocked in small quantities rather than carried continuously. When they go they are not automatically repeated.
Add it to the bag. Seven days to send it back if it is not right.
