Handwoven Rattan
Basket Bag
A rigid handwoven rattan bag with an embroidered band, two leather handles and a removable drawstring pouch.
Rattan, not raffia — rigid, and it stays rigid.
The only bag here that is furniture
Rattan is a cane, not a fibre: it is soaked, bent around a form and left to dry on it. That is why this body holds a hard rectangle no woven-fibre bag can hold, and why it still stands square on a table with nothing in it.
Rattan body, jacquard pouch
It has natural, handwoven rattan for the body, with gold-tone charms hanging at the handle join and an embroidered band running across the front.
Inside sits a removable jacquard pouch with a drawstring, embroidered with lettering. Two short leather handles carry it in the hand, and an adjustable strap of about 83 to 125 cm takes it onto the shoulder or across the body.
How it carries
- Two short leather handles, for the hand or arm
- An adjustable strap, approx. 83–125 cm
- A removable jacquard pouch on a drawstring
- A rigid rattan body that holds its shape
- Approx. 1.1 kg
The product
Natural, handwoven rattan. Removable inner pocket in jacquard fabric with a drawstring. Gold-tone pendants. Embroidered lettering on the inner pocket. Two short handles plus an adjustable shoulder strap approx. 83–125 cm. Width 24 cm, height 21 cm, depth 12 cm. Weight approx. 1.1 kg.
One version
Offered in natural rattan with a dark embroidered band.
Why it costs what it costs
Rattan has to be woven wet around a form and then left to dry on it. Rush the drying and the cane splits; skip the form and the bag warps. It is the slowest construction in this catalogue and the only one that is genuinely rigid.
