Woven Raffia
Basket Tote — Large
A large handwoven raffia basket with wide printed webbing handles, calfskin accents and an unlined interior.
Thirty-three centimetres tall, and it stands up empty.
A basket that holds its shape without a frame
Raffia woven tightly enough sets into its own structure as it dries, which is why a bag this tall stands on a table with nothing in it. No frame, no stiffener, no lining — just the weave doing the work.
Raffia body, webbing handles
It has sturdy natural raffia with smooth calfskin accents and subtle gold-tone details, handwoven and left unlined so the texture shows inside as well as out.
Two wide webbing handles run down the front and back and are about 25 cm, which clears the shoulder, and a leather tab sits inside against the weave.
How it carries
- Handles of approx. 25 cm — hand or shoulder
- Unlined, so the weave shows inside too
- Calfskin accents at the handle joins
- A tight weave that stands up empty
- Room for a towel and a book
The product
Natural raffia, handwoven, with smooth calfskin accents. Unlined. Subtle gold-tone details. Two leather handles, height approx. 25 cm, hand or shoulder carry. Width 40 cm, height 33 cm, depth 15 cm.
One colour
Offered in natural raffia. The same design is listed separately in linen canvas.
Why it costs what it costs
Every row of a raffia basket is packed down by hand against the one below it. That is what makes the wall stiff enough to stand, and it is the step that cannot be sped up — a loose weave is a floppy bag, and there is no fixing it afterwards.
We sell direct. There is no shop floor between this bag and you and no distributor taking a cut on the way, so the retail margin that normally sits on top of a piece like this is simply not in the price.
- Sold direct — no retail margin stacked on the bag
- Handwoven raffia, not a raffia print
- Calfskin accents and webbing handles
- Seven calendar days from delivery to return or exchange, unworn and in its original condition.
