Woven Raffia
Basket Tote
A handwoven natural raffia tote with a scalloped top edge, long tan leather handles and a removable inner pouch.
Handwoven, so no two come out exactly alike.
Forty-two centimetres wide, and almost weightless
Raffia is the only material that gives you a bag this size without the weight that normally comes with it. Loaded, it still hangs off the shoulder like nothing — which is why the basket has survived every attempt to replace it.
Raffia body, leather handles
It has handwoven natural raffia with calf leather details, unlined, so the natural texture shows on both faces. The top edge is cut in a scalloped curve rather than straight across.
Two long leather handles are about 35 cm, long enough for the shoulder, and a removable interior pouch with a leather zip comes inside it.
How it carries
- Handles of approx. 35 cm — hand or shoulder
- A removable interior pouch with a leather zip
- Unlined, so the weave shows inside too
- A scalloped top edge rather than a straight one
- Handwoven, so each one differs slightly
The product
Natural raffia, handwoven, with calf leather details. Unlined. Subtle gold-tone accents. Removable interior pocket with a leather zip. Two long leather handles, strap length approx. 35 cm. Width 42 cm, height 21.5 cm, depth 12 cm.
Each bag is handmade, and small irregularities are the sign of that.
One colour
Offered in natural raffia with tan leather. This is the only colour.
Why it costs what it costs
Raffia is woven wet and dries onto its shape, which is why a raffia bag holds a curve no stitched panel could hold. It is also why it cannot be rushed: the drying sets the form, and the form is the bag.
We sell direct. There is no shop floor between this bag and you and no distributor taking a cut on the way, so the retail margin that normally sits on top of a piece like this is simply not in the price.
- Sold direct — no retail margin stacked on the bag
