A circle, not an oval
Round frames usually cheat — slightly wider than tall, because a true circle is harder to wear. This one does not. The lens is a full round set in acetate thick enough to hold the shape, which is why it reads as a decision rather than as a softened rectangle.

Cut from a block, not moulded
Acetate this thick is worked rather than poured: the front is cut, the round is opened out, and the edges are rolled and polished until the rim has depth to it. That thickness is what lets a circle sit on the face without collapsing into a wire shape.
The temples are wide flat blades in the same material, set with a raised metal plaque at the hinge end. They taper towards the tip and bend only at the very end, so the frame slides on rather than clamping.

Filtered, not just tinted
The lenses are polarised with an anti-glare treatment and full UV400 filtering across UVA and UVB. Polarisation cuts the flat shine off wet roads, windscreens and water; UV400 is the protection figure, and it is the number worth reading on any pair.
The gradient finishes run darker at the top and clear towards the bottom. On a round lens that gradient follows the curve, which is why the eye stays visible from below and hidden from in front.

Why it costs what it costs
Acetate is the expensive way to build a frame. It is cut from sheet rather than injected into a mould, the thickness has to be worked down by hand at the rim, and the tortoiseshell and transparent finishes are in the material itself rather than sprayed on top. Add a polarised laminate lens and the build is well past what the price suggests.
We sell direct. There is no shop floor and no distributor taking a cut on the way, so the retail margin that normally sits on top of a frame like this is not in the price. What that pays for is the material — real acetate with the pattern running through it, instead of painted plastic.

Who does a true round suit?
Square, angular and heart-shaped faces, where the circle softens the jaw and the brow. On an already round face it will echo the shape rather than balance it.
Can the fit be adjusted?
The temples can be gently reshaped by an optician with heat if the arms sit too wide. The bridge is moulded acetate rather than metal pads, so its height on the face is fixed.
Is acetate heavier than metal?
A thick acetate front weighs more than a wire one, yes. It is spread across a wide bridge and wide temples rather than concentrated on two nose pads, so it is usually felt less, not more.
Which finish is the easiest to wear?
Leopard. The pattern runs through the material so it shifts with the light, and it sits between black and the transparents — less severe than the first, less of a statement than the second.
Do the transparent frames mark?
They show skin oil and sun cream more readily than a solid colour, in the same way clear plastic always does. A rinse and a dry cloth clears it; it is not a flaw in the material.
How should it be cleaned?
Cool water and a soft cloth. Keep solvents and alcohol wipes away from acetate — they dull the polish on the rim, which is the part that took the most work.
Six finishes, small runs of each
Cut acetate caps how many of each finish we can hold, and the patterned and transparent ones go first because they cannot be mixed to order. When a run sells through it is not always repeated.
