Platform
Shearling Slippers
A closed-toe suede mule on a thick treaded platform, lined in shearling.
A platform on a slipper. It means you can walk to the bin in them.
The sole is what takes this outdoors
A house slipper has a flat felt sole and stops at the front door. Putting a moulded, treaded platform under the same shearling upper turns it into something you can cross a wet pavement in — which is the only reason this shape exists.
The design
It has a closed-toe suede upper with an open back, a braided collar in red and cream stitched round the topline, and a dense shearling lining running through the footbed.
The sole is a thick moulded platform with a deep tread, noticeably taller than the upper.
How they are built
- A closed toe with an open back
- A braided collar stitched round the topline
- A shearling lining through the footbed
- A thick moulded platform with a deep tread
- One colour
The product
Upper: suede, closed toe with an open back. Lining: dense shearling through the footbed. Collar: braided in red and cream, stitched round the topline. Sole: thick moulded platform with a deep tread.
One colour
A tan upper with a red and cream braided collar.
Why it costs what it costs
Stitching a braided collar round a curved topline is hand work: the braid has to be eased round the arc without puckering, and on suede a stitch that goes in wrong cannot be taken out. It is the detail that dates this shape and the reason a cheap copy always looks flat at the heel.
