Handwoven Raffia
Tote — Large
A large open-weave raffia tote with leather handles and trim, unlined, in a natural straw colour.
Thirty-seven and a half centimetres, and it weighs almost nothing.
The weave is the structure
There is no lining, no board and no frame in this: the raffia is worked tightly enough to hold its own shape, which is why a bag 37 cm across can still be carried one-handed without feeling like luggage.
Handwoven raffia, leather trim
It has a handwoven raffia body with leather trim and a large round leather patch on the front, unlined inside, with gold-tone metal.
Two short leather handles carry it in the hand or over the shoulder. It is very light and gives a depth of 17 cm, which is enough for a laptop laid flat.
How it carries
- Two short leather handles
- Hand or over the shoulder
- Unlined, so it stays very light
- Room for a laptop
- Width 37.5 cm, depth 17 cm
The product
Exterior: handwoven raffia with leather trim. Lining: unlined, light and airy. Gold-tone hardware. Two short leather handles; carried by hand or over the shoulder. Width 37.5 cm, height 30 cm, depth 17 cm. Room for a laptop, a towel, sunglasses, cosmetics and a wallet.
One version
Offered in a natural raffia with leather trim.
Why it costs what it costs
Raffia cannot be fed through a machine, so every row of this is tensioned by the person making it. On an open weave any row pulled tighter than the one before shows as a ripple across the whole panel, and a bag 30 cm tall is a great many rows to keep even.
We sell direct. There is no shop floor between this bag and you and no distributor taking a cut on the way, so the retail margin that normally sits on top of a piece like this is simply not in the price.
- Sold direct — no retail margin stacked on the bag
- Handwoven raffia with leather handles and trim
- Unlined, so almost all of the weight is the weave
- A 17 cm depth that takes a laptop flat
- Seven calendar days from delivery to return or exchange, unworn and in its original condition.
