A print or a motif that looks right on a flat panel can break at every seam once the garment is assembled. Placing it so the flowers still read across the shoulder and the side seam is a pattern-cutting decision, not a design one.

Patterned yarn or panels cost more than plain ones before a single stitch is sewn, and the waste is higher because panels cannot be nested tightly when the pattern has to line up. It is the same reason a plain jumper is always the cheapest one on the rail.
